News NT Live to Broadcast National Theatre's Threepenny Opera to Cinemas Around the World Rory Kinnear stars as Macheath in the new adaptation by Simon Stephens.

NT Live will broadcast the current National Theatre production of Brecht and Weill's 1928 show The Threepenny Opera to cinemas around the world September 22.

Directed by National Theatre artistic director Rufus Norris and presented in a new adaptation by Simon Stephens, the production stars Rory Kinnear as Macheath, Haydn Gwynne as Mrs. Peachum and Rosalie Craig as Polly Peachum.

Also in the cast are Hammed Animashaun, Sarah Amankwah, Toyin Ayeden-Alase, Jamie Beddard, Rebecca Brewer, Andrew Buckley, Ricky Butt, Mark Carroll, Matt Cross, Peter de Jersey, Nick Holder, George Ikediashi. Debbie Kurup, Conor Neaves, Sharon Small, Dominic Tighe and Wendy Somerville.

The production is designed by Vicki Mortimer, with musical direction by David Shrubsole, choreography by Imogen Knight, lighting by Paule Constable, sound by Paul Arditti and fight direction by Rachel Bown Williams and Ruth Cooper of RC-ANNIE Ltd.

In the show, according to press notes, “London scrubs up for the coronation. The thieves are on the make, the whores on the pull, the police cutting deals to keep it all out of sight. Mr. and Mrs. Peachum are looking forward to a bumper day in the beggary business but their daughter didn’t come home last night. Mack the Knife is back in town.”

The Threepenny Opera is currently running in rep in the National's Olivier Theatre through October 1.
