New York and Toronto will be swapping Beasts Feb. 5 when Steve Blanchard, Broadway's current male lead in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, heads north to the Toronto company, crossing paths with Canada's Beast, Chuck Wagner, who will be on his way south to New York City in the exchange.

Wagner will join the current NY Belle, Kerry Butler, who was the original Belle in Canada.

In other casting news, the Toronto production will also get 10 other new cast-members: Janet MacEwen (Mrs. Potts), Alan Mozes (Le Fou), Robert Godin (Maurice), Daniel Clark (Chip), Sharron Matthews (Babette) and ensemblers Michael Donald, Graham Rowat, Milo Shandel, Paula Wolfson and Barrie Wood.

The musical, which opened at the Palace Theatre April 19, 1994 and has now run more than 1000 performances, is a stage adaptation of the Disney animated film musical with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman, and additional lyrics by Tim Rice. The Canadian production is in its second year.
