New sound technology has allowed engineers to isolate dialogue and vocal tracks from the original 1961 film so that the Philharmonic will be able to play Leonard Bernstein's full score live along with the movie. The screenings will take place at 7:30 PM. Academy Award nominee David Newman will conduct.

The presentation promises a restored high definition print of the original film. It will be released on Blu-Ray this fall by 20th CenturyFox Home Entertainment.

West Side Story has lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Arthur Laurents. The film, which credits Ernest Lehman as screenwriter, was co-directed by original Broadway director Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise. It stars Natalie Wood as Maria, Richard Beymer as Tony, Rita Moreno as Anita and George Chakiris as Bernardo.

The film famously used vocal doubles for several key roles including Marni Nixon (for Natalie Wood) and Jimmy Bryant (for Richard Beymer). It earned Academy Awards including Best Picture.
