News NY Readings of The Last Seder Set for May 9-10 at MTC; Casting Announced In January Ed Asner and Cloris Leachman took part in a reading of Jennifer Maisel's comedy The Last Seder in Beverly Hills. A New York workshop has now been scheduled for May 9-10 at Manhattan Theatre Club Studios.

The staged readings at MTC will feature the talents of Kathleen Butler, Robert Hogan, Rebecca Creskoff and Josh Stamberg. Joseph Megel will direct. Butler has appeared onstage in Edward Albee's Three Tall Women, Occupant, Marriage Play and The Play About the Baby. Hogan earned an Outer Critics Circle Award for his work in Never the Sinner. Creskoff has been seen on FOX-TV's "Quintuplets" and the WB series "One Tree Hill," and Stamberg has a recurring role on HBO's "Six Feet Under." Hogan and Butler, according to production notes, "play the parents of four neurotic daughters who return home for what is likely to be the final Seder in the family home. As the sisters witness the effects of their father's encroaching mental meltdown and of their otherwise genial mother's newfound fascination with swearing, what was supposed to be a claiming of personal items and a packing of boxes, turns into a soul-searching group reckoning of clashing lifestyles."

Producer Charlie Schroder hopes to mount an Off-Broadway production of Maisel's comedy in the fall. Playwright Maisel was a recent Heideman Award finalist for her ten-minute play Goody Fucking Two Shoes. She is also the recipient of the Charlotte Woolard Award for most promising new playwright. The Last Seder was commissioned by the National Foundation for Jewish Culture.
