3-Legged Dog, a New York City Theatre Company known for their integration of high technology into the world of live theatre, will take their next show to Off- Broadway's Signature Theatre, when Kevin Cunningham's Automatic Earth plays there, July 10-August 1.
The large-scale, multimedia piece traces the story of Vining Hamke, a man searching for an impossibly perfect landscape, one which would bring logic and reason to his mind after the man experiences a brain injury. His odyssey takes him around America, from a New York State Mental Hospital to a Texas nudie bar introducing to an array of characters including: a cannibal, a topless dancer and a mad Houston artist.
Cunningham developed Earth from his work with violent psychotic patients in high security hospital wards and by his interest in non-linear dynamics as it applies to biological systems. Cunningham worked with one of the world's leading expert in hurricane dynamics to create some of the complex graphics which are woven into the piece. After the Off-Broadway production, Earth will move to Mexico City at the Centro Nacional de las Artes.
