News NYPD Extends New Year’s "No Parking" Area to Ninth and Fifth Avenues In connection with their previously announced Times Square 2000 Gala Pedestrian Zone, which ran from 59th Street to 34th Street between Eighth and Sixth Avenues, the NYPD now says its "No Parking" area actually extends from Fifth Avenue to Ninth Avenue between 34th Street to 59th Street.

In connection with their previously announced Times Square 2000 Gala Pedestrian Zone, which ran from 59th Street to 34th Street between Eighth and Sixth Avenues, the NYPD now says its "No Parking" area actually extends from Fifth Avenue to Ninth Avenue between 34th Street to 59th Street. However, the NYPD says that cars on the east/west border avenues, Ninth and Fifth, are not scheduled to be towed as of this time. The police say they will concentrate their towing efforts on Broadway and Seventh Avenue, followed by Sixth and Eighth Avenues.

In addition, the NYPD has announced that crosstown street closures may begin as early as noon Friday, Dec. 31, if deemed necessary.
