Long-time downtown denizens, The Talking Band's production of Tilt, a musical-comedy written and composed by Ellen Maddow at La MaMa, has been extended until Feb. 14. It began performances Jan. 21.

Talking Band was founded in 1974, by former members of Joseph Chaikin's Open Theatre: Ellen Maddow, Tina Shepard and Paul Zimet. The group focuses on music's influence on theatre, with all the actors in the pieces also doubling as musicians, and textured languages often approaching singing. Over the years, Talking Band, has worked with top-notch designers and puppeteers, including Julie Taymor, Janie Geisner and Theodora Skipitares.

Tilt follows Ziggy (Zimet) and Flo (Shepard), long-time business partners, each coping with stress in entirely different ways. Ziggy relies on logic, attempting to rationalize each moment into precise units, whereas Flo escapes though mystical intitution and daydreams.
