Off Broadway's Secrets Every Smart Traveler Should Know celebrates its one year anniversary with a gala performance at 8 PM Oct. 30. For the gala, the prize for an audience member will be a "dream vacation".

Based on Wendy Perrin's Fodor's travel guide of the same name, Smart Traveler covers the globe in 100 minutes with 20 original songs and sketches that take the audience to 40 different countries. Produced by Perrin's brother Scott, Traveler inspired a slew of revue writers including Douglas Bernstein, Francesca Blumenthal, Michael Brown, Barry Creyton, Lesley Davison, Stan Freeman and songwriters Dave Frishberg and Murray Grand.

As well as serving as entertainment, the production also offers travel discounts, prizes and sometimes even advice. Author Perrin has appeared via satellite for question and answer periods from locations as far flung as Ireland, China, the Grand Canyon and the Bahamas.

Patrick Quinn, a veteran of another revue Forbidden Broadway, directed with musical direction by Stan Freeman.

The current cast features Ray DeMattis, Kathy Fitzgerald, Liz McConahay and Nick Santa Maria. Charlie Alterman accompanies the four on piano with Jay Leonhart on bass.

A Boston production of Smart Traveler is planned for the Plaza Hotel this fall.

For tickets ($47.50-$20) to the New York Smart Traveler, call (212) 799-4599. The Triad Theatre is located at 158 West 72nd Street.
