News Off-Broadway Hit Well Begins in San Francisco with Kron and Original Cast Members Lisa Kron's lauded Off-Broadway show Well begins its west coast premiere at San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater Feb. 11 with most of the original New York cast intact.

Leigh Silverman — who staged the Off-Broadway world premiere and previous Sundance Theatre Lab workshop — returns to direct. The staging is set to open Feb. 16 open for a run at A.C.T.'s Geary Theater through March 13.

In Well, Kron leads the audience through stories of her childhood and family. This time, however, the solo performer surrounds herself with a cast — who portray various characters — and her barrier-breaking mother. The characters and Kron, at times, give way to the conventions of theatre, breaking into the words of the actors themselves.

Joining Kron for the California run are original Off-Broadway castmates Jayne Houdyshell in her OBIE Award-winning turn, as well as Saidah Ekullna, Joel Van Liew, and Welker White. Actor A-men Rasheed joins the ensemble.

The A.C.T. production of Well also features members of the original design team including Allen Moyer (sets), Christopher Akerlind (lighting), and Miranda Hoffman (costumes). A.C.T. resident designer Garth Hemphill provides sound design.

Playwright-performer Kron has also penned 2.5 Minute Ride and 101 Humiliating Stories. As an actress, she has appeared in The Vagina Monologues and The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told. Additional casting and designers for Well will be announced at a later date. Director Silverman has staged Jump/Cut (Woolly Mammoth Theatre), Wit (London’s West End and Los Angeles' Geffen Theatre), How I Learned to Drive (Actors Theatre of Louisville), The Ride Down Mt. Morgan (Washington, D.C.'s Theatre J) and Blown Sideways Through Life (Adirondack Theatre Festival). She also recently serves as associate director on Broadway’s Never Gonna Dance.

Following Well the season at A.C.T. includes David Mamet's adaptation of Harley Granville-Barker’s The Voysey Inheritance (March 18-April 17), Eugene O'Neill's A Moon for the Misbegotten (April 28-May 29) and Edward Albee's The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? (June 10-July 10).

Tickets to Well at A.C.T.'s Geary Theatre, 415 Geary St. in San Francisco, CA, are available by calling (415) 749-2250. For more information, visit www.act sf.org.
