News Old Testament-Inspired Brothers Set for LaMaMa Beginning April 24 The poetry of LaMaMa founder and artistic director Ellen Stewart has inspired the world premiere of Brothers, which is set to begin performances at the downtown experimental hub April 24.

Stewart's poem, itself inspired by the tales of the Old Testament, has been adapted into a multimedia theatrical work by LaMaMa resident director Andrea Paciotto. Paciotto has collaborated on Brothers with the Bosnian City Theatre Jazavac as well as with Jan H. Klug, who provides the score and video design for the production.

According to LaMaMa production notes, Brothers "depicts a world where centuries of conflicts, detailed throughout the ancient scriptures, have led to turmoil and upheaval." Paciotto has focused his work to illuminate the destructive and violent human impulses, and contradictions that are rampant in contemporary politics.

The cast – composed of members of the City Theatre Jazavac, Spoleto's Offucina Eclectic Artists and La MaMa – will tour the production to Spoleto, Italy (May 16-18) and to Banja Luka, Bosnia (May 28-June 1).

The LaMaMa engagement of Brothers runs through May 11. Tickets are available by calling (212) 475-7710 or by visiting www.lamama.org.

LaMaMa e.t.c. is located at 74A East 4th Street in Manhattan.
