News Olympia Dukakis and Veanne Cox to Star Off-Broadway in A Mother, a Daughter, and a Gun Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis, Veanne Cox and George S. Irving will star Off-Broadway in A Mother, A Daughter, And A Gun, a new comedy by Barra Grant and directed by stage and film director Jonathan Lynn. It will begin performances on Oct. 14 at Dodger Stages with an official opening on Nov. 1.

The play will have a pre-New York run at the Helen Hayes Theatre in Nyack, New York, Sept. 23-Oct. 9. Also in the cast are David Bishins, Mario Campanaro, Katrina Ferguson, Matthew Greer, Laura Heisler, Stephanie Kurtzuba and Daniel Pearce.

To be presented in New York by Brian Reilly and Nelle Nugent, A Mother, a Daughter, and a Gun will feature set design by Jesse Poleshuck, costumes by David C. Woolard, lighting by Beverly Emmons, and sound design by T. Richard Fitzgerald and Carl Casella.

Dukakis played Broadway in 2000's solo show, Rose, a production she also starred in on the West End. Film credits include "Steel Magnolias," "Dad," "Look Who's Talking," "Mighty Aphrodite" and "Picture Perfect." She ran the Whole Theatre in Montclair, NJ, from 1971 until it closed in 1990.

Cox was recently seen Off-Broadway in Last Easter and on Broadway in Caroline, or Change. She won a Tony nomination for Company. Veteran Irving received a Tony Award for his performance in Irene and was also nominated for his work in Me and My Girl. His Broadway career began in Oklahoma!

Barra Grant, who is also an actress, wrote screeplays for "Slow Dancing in the Big City" and "Misunderstood." She recently wrote and directed her first feature film, Life of the Party, which premiered at the Palm Springs Film Festival prior to premiering on the Lifetime network in May 2006. The British Jonathan Lynn is best known for his television work, which include the cult BBC series "Yes, Minister" and "Yes, Prime Minister," and his many films, the most famous of which are "My Cousin Vinny" and "The Whole Nine Yards."
