Broadway News On Your Feet! Sets Closing Date on Broadway The Gloria Estefan bio-musical musical opened on Broadway in November 2015.

On Your Feet!, the original musical based on the lives of seven-time Grammy winner Gloria Estefan and her husband, producer-musician-entrepreneur Emilio Estefan, will play its final Broadway performance August 20 at the Marquis Theatre.

The new musical officially opened November 5, 2015, following previews that began October 5. When it closes, the production, directed by two-time Tony winner Jerry Mitchell, will have played 34 previews and 746 regular performances.

Ana Villafañe, who created the role of Gloria, continues in that part. Villafañe, a Cuban-American singer, dancer, and actor from Miami, was chosen through an open audition process and made her Broadway debut in the show. The current cast also includes Ektor Rivera as Emilio, Doreen Montalvo as Gloria Fajardo, and Alma Cuervo as Consuelo.

It was previously announced that On Your Feet! will launch a 31-city first national tour this fall. The tour will celebrate its official opening in the Estefans’ home city of Miami, Florida, playing the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts October 5–15 before continuing on to Orlando, Houston, Dallas, Baltimore, and San Diego, with many other stops to be announced. The tour will first play a preview engagement in Buffalo, New York beginning September 22.

This fall also marks the international premiere of On Your Feet!, with a production of the musical opening at Beatrix Theatre in Utrecht, The Netherlands, October 18. Productions are also planned for Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Mexico, and Japan.

The musical, according to press notes, is “the story of two people who—through an unwavering dedication to one another and their pursuit of the American dream—showcased their talent, their music and their heritage to the world in a remarkable rise to global superstardom.” It features such hits as “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You,” “1-2-3,” “Mi Tierra” and “Conga,” in addition to new music penned by the Estefans.

The show is choreographed by Olivier Award winner Sergio Trujillo, who earned a Tony nomination for his work in On Your Feet!, with an original book by Academy Award winner Alexander Dinelaris.

Completing the creative team are Tony-winning scenic designer David Rockwell, Tony-nominated costume designer Emilio Sosa, Tony Award-winning lighting designer Kenneth Posner, Tony Award-winning sound designer Steve Kennedy, projections designer Darrel Maloney, and hair and wig designer Chuck LaPointe, with music direction by Lon Hoyt, orchestrations by Gloria Estefan and Emilio Estefan, and dance arrangements and orchestrations by Oscar Hernandez.
