Wolpe takes over the role from current star David Garrison, who leaves the company July 8.

The actor joins the current cast which features Julia Murney as Elphaba, Kendra Kassebaum as Glinda, Jayne Houdyshell as Madame Morrible, Sebastian Arcelus as Fiyero, Cristy Candler as Nessarose, Logan Lipton as Boq and Steven Skybell as Dr. Dillamond.

Wolpe has also appeared on Broadway in The Drowsy Chaperone, The Sound of Music, Copperfield, Into the Light and Onward Victoria Other credits include Mayor, Brownstone, Company, The Wonder Years and the national tours of Little Shop of Horrors, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, South Pacific. He played opposite Betty Buckley in Gypsy and has filled the role of Tevye in six productions of Fiddler on the Roof.

Wicked began on Broadway Oct. 8, 2003 and opened Oct. 30 at the George Gershwin Theatre. Joe Mantello (Assassins, Take Me Out) directed the musical penned by composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz with a book by Winnie Holzman based on the Gregory Maguire novel. Original star Idina Menzel earned the Tony Award for Best Actress for her work opposite Kristin Chenoweth. The production also earned honors for scenic designer Eugene Lee and costume designer Susan Hilferty.
