News Once On This Island Star Will Explore Songs of Ella Fitzgerald at 54 Below Helen Hayes Award winner Andrea Frierson, whose Broadway credits include Once on This Island, Marie Christine and Bring in 'Da Noise/Bring in 'Da Funk, will go it solo Nov. 5 at 54 Below.

Frierson's evening, which is entitled me & ella, is described as "a musical journey back to the beginnings of a young singer enamored with Ella Fitzgerald, set against a backdrop of New York City in the 1960’s." Show time is 9:30 PM. Written and performed by Frierson with musical arrangements and musical supervision by Ron Abel, the concert features direction by Murphy Cross and Paul KreppelPart memory play and part tribute, me & ella, press notes state, is "both a singer’s coming of age story, as well as a valentine to the First Lady of Song."

Frierson has also appeared on New York stages in Goddess of Love, Juan Darien: A Carnival Mass, For Colored Girls... and A Christmas Carol.
