The 11:30 PM concert marks Nayfack's New York onstage debut and celebrates the launch of her "KickStartHer" campaign to complete the world's first crowd-funded sex change.
In One Woman Show, according to press notes, "Shakina tells the story of coming of age as a gay boy during the height of the AIDS epidemic, the adolescent trials that forced her to become a radical youth activist, and the awakening that caused her to leave the movement in favor of a spiritual quest full of ritual dance, drag, and gender bending showtunes."
Written and performed by Nayfack with music direction by Jeremy Robin Lyons, the evening features takes on Broadway standards as well as new songs by Julianne Wick Davis (Southern Comfort), Sam Salmond (Mormons, Mothers, and Monsters) and Nikko Benson (Nikola Tesla Drops the Beat).
The band features Mike Rosengarten on guitar, Joseph Wallace on bass and Jeff Roberts on drums.
Nayfack is currently developing Junk: A Rock Opera with the Swedish pop band Brainpool, Jahn Sood's new folk opera The Disappearing Man and The Craft - the Musical with composer Kevin Michael Jones.
