Ontario's smaller summer theatres are starting to gear up for the season and several are showcasing new work (see news stories Feb.23 on Theatre Orangeville and Nov. 5 on Blyth Festival).
Opening a three-play season at Petrolia Playhouse is the premiere of a new musical by Marc Richard and David Warrack. Shakin' the Blues Away recreates the red hot, be-boppin' swing and blues of the 30s, 40s and 50s and spotlights the legendary composers and lyricists of the time in a mix of choreography, music and a romantic storyline.
The other two shows in the season are both comedies: I Hate Hamlet by Paul Rudnick, and Weekend Comedy by Jeanne and Sam Bobrick.
Shakin' The Blues Away, July 14 to 25; I Hate Hamlet, July 28 to August 8; Weekend Comedy, August 12 to 22.
