Here, DanceOn hits the red carpet on opening night in New Jersey and talks to the cast and creative team about the new musical directed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun. Calhoun is joined outside the Paper Mill by choreographer Christopher Gattelli, "Newsies" screenwriters Noni White and Bob Tzudiker, the show's star Jeremy Jordan and cast members from Newsies.
In the musical, Jordan is joined by Tony Award nominee John Dossett as newspaper giant Joseph Pulitzer and Kara Lindsay as Katherine Plumber, a new character created for the stage. Also in the cast are Ben Fankhauser as Davey, RJ Fattori and Vincent Agnello sharing the role of Les, Andrew Keenan-Bolger as Crutchie, Tommy Bracco as Spot Conlon, Brendon Stimson as Oscar Delancey, Mike Faist as Morris Delancey, Aaron J. Albano, Ryan Breslin, Kyle Coffman, Max Ehrich, JP Ferreri, Garett Hawe, Corey Hummerston, Evan Kasprzak, Andy Richardson, Scott Shedenhelm and Ryan Steele.
The musical features a score by eight-time Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken and lyricist Jack Feldman, and a new book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein.
