Classic Arts News Opera Memphis's 50th Season to Feature Denyce Graves in Concert Memphis Opera will celebrate its 50th anniversary next season with a gala concert featuring mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, the company announced.
Graves will sing arias and spirituals at the concert, which is scheduled for May 13, 2006. The Memphis Symphony will accompany her.

The season will also include productions of Saint-SaêŠns' Samson et Dalila, Verdi's Rigoletto, Mozart's Don Giovanni, and Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors.

Over the last 50 years, Opera Memphis has grown into a professional company from a community-based organization in which, artistic director Michael Ching said, the same enthusiasts "sewed the costumes, built the sets, and starred in the shows."
