Winfrey was to have played the role of the mother who is trying--unsuccessfully as it turns out--to talk her grown daughter out of suicide. Winfrey told the magazine, “I just didn’t want to be in the space of suicide every night for six months. I’d like something with a happier ending.”
Winfrey, who gave up her popular TV talk show in 2011 to focus on publishing, producing and acting, co-produced one of this year’s Oscar nominees for Best Picture, “Selma.”
The magazine reports that she is considering two other unnamed stage projects. In January it was reported that Winfrey was also considering appearing in a revival of Friedrich Duerrenmatt's The Visit, but those plans were trumped by the planned new musical based on the same play.
