News Oprah Winfrey Welcomes Entire Original Cast of "Sound of Music" Film Oct. 28 For the first time in 45 years, the entire cast of the Academy Award-winning movie musical "The Sound of Music" reunites for the Oct. 28 broadcast of the syndicated "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

Stars Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, along with fellow cast members Charmian Carr (Liesl), Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich), Heather Menzies-Urich (Louisa), Duane Chase (Kurt), Angela Cartwright (Brigitta), Debbie Turner (Marta) and Kym Karath (Gretl) will appear on the hour-long broadcast of the chat show.

"Together for the first time in nearly half a century," press notes state, "the cast shares secrets from the set, reminiscences about their time together and what their lives have been like in the years since the movie was released.  Finally, the von Trapp Children — a singing group featuring members of the real von Trapp family — pay their own special tribute to the film that made their family name known throughout the world."

Robert Wise directed Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer in the film, which is based on the Rodgers & Hammerstein Broadway musical and which won the Oscar for Best Picture.

The stage version of The Sound of Music originally premiered on Broadway in 1959, winning six Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

"The Oprah Winfrey Show" airs in the New York metropolitan area on WABC-TV, Channel 7 at 4 PM ET; check local listings.

The restored Blu-ray/DVD, soundtrack and Limited Edition Gift Box sets of "The Sound of Music" will be in stores beginning Nov. 2.
