Cherry Lane Theatre will open its doors this month for a special one-nightly-only benefit event to help those affected by the natural disasters in Puerto Rico and Mexico. Titled Indestructible, the October 22 concert event will feature a roster of stars that includes Orange is the New Black’s Taylor Schilling and Rosal Colon, among others.
Indestructible: A Special Beneift Event will be an evening of song, dance, comedy, and spoken word; 100% of the ticket sales and donations will go to local organizations directly working with the affected.
The lineup also includes Flaco Navaja (Def Poetry Jam), Irene Sofia Lucio (Wit), Emma Ramos (BUTS), David Zayas (Dexter), Desmar Guevara and Elise Santora (Betsy), stand-up comic Melissa Diaz, Ximena Salgado (La pre), muMs (Birdman), D’marquesina, and more to be announced.
Indestructible is produced by Janio Marrero and will run 8–10 PM at the Cherry Lane Theatre. A non-perishable food drive will be held in the lobby during the event, and items such as first aid supplies and baby products are welcome.
Producers of this event are coordinating with the Puerto Rican Family Institute and Direct Relief Mexico to arrange delivery of donated goods.
Cherry Lane Theatre has also partnered with LABrynth Theater, Primary Stages, Rattlestick Theater, Barefoot Theater Co., National Black Theater, InViolet Theater Co., Harlem Stage, Sol Project, Rhymes Over Beats, H.O.L.A., Two River Theater Pregones / Puerto Rican Traveling Theater, and Ensemble Studio Theatre for this event.
