News Orbach, the Younger, Steps Into Irish Rep's Peg O' My Heart July 1 Chris Orbach, son of New York stage veteran and "Law & Order" star Jerry Orbach, makes his professional stage debut July 1, joining the cast of Irish Repertory Theatre's Peg O' My Heart.

The new musical version of the play by J. Hartley Manners ends its limited engagement July 6. Songs, adaptation and direction are by IRT artistic director Charlotte Moore. Orbach plays the role of Christian Brent.

The famous and popular play "is the tale of a pretty Irish colleen who leaves New York for a stately home in England where she will receive lessons in grooming and behavior from her snobbish cousins and very proper aunt. Inheritances are in question and surprises are in store, however, when the rebellious Peg encounters an unknown benefactor and falls madly in love."

Peg O' My Heart also features Kathleen Early (Peg), Jody Madaras, Melissa Hart, Rita Harvey, J. Kennedy, Don Sparks and James A. Stephens.

The production has musical arrangements and musical direction by Eddie Guttman, scenic design by James Morgan, costume design by David Toser, lighting design by Mary Jo Dondlinger, sound design by Zachary Williamson, and hair design by Robert-Charles Vallance. Performances began May 22.

Orbach trained at The High School For Performing Arts, New York City; The Webber-Douglas Academy summer program, London; and (briefly) at SUNY Purchase before earning a BFA in film and television production at New York University and not acting for almost seven years. Two years ago, he appeared as Protheus in Shakespeare's Two Gentlemen of Verona with the Elizabethan Shakespeare Company, in Hoboken. He also appeared in Kerouac at Theater East, in New York. The younger Orbach has a steady career in voice-overs, and is also a singer-songwriter. He will record an album in the late summer.

Tickets are $35-$40. Irish Rep is located at 132 W. 22nd Street. For information, call (212) 727-2737 or visit www.irishrep.org.
