Comedies about Shakespeare are hot, and Oregon Cabaret Theatre will present the American premiere of one written specifically for the Royal Shakespeare Company. The Shakespeare Revue by Malcolm McKee and Christopher Luscombe, runs at the Ashland, OR theatre from April 14-June 14, opening April 16..
A collection of songs and comic sketches with Shakespearean or theatrical themes, The Shakespeare Revue features pieces by Tom Lehrer, Noel Coward, Cole Porter, Dudley Moore, Monty Python and Stephen Sondheim. Some of the songs include "Moody Dane," "Cravin' for the Avon," "The Night I Appeared as Macbeth" and "Carrying a Torch (For the Boy Who's Carrying the Spear)."
The Shakespeare Revue stars Peter Giffin, Rob Jones, Ellen Lawson, Wade McCollum and Karen Skrinde.
McKee and Luscombe direct, with OCT artistic director Jim Giancarlo providing the choreography.
