Classic Arts News Oregon Symphony Concertmaster Amy Moretti to Retire Amy Schwartz Moretti, the Oregon Symphony's concertmaster, is stepping down from her position after only two years, reports The Oregonian of Portland.
Moretti, 31, will leave in May 2007 to focus on teaching, chamber music and her career as a soloist. She will become the director and associate professor of the new Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer University's Townsend School of Music in Macon, Georgia, where she will hold the Caroline Paul King Chair in Strings.

The paper writes that Moretti, who joined the Oregon Symphony a year after Carlos Kalmar became music director, was admired by the musicians for her "amiable leadership, keen rhythmic style, ability to demonstrate the conductor's wishes and willingness to collaborate in performances outside the orchestra."

The orchestra will soon begin a search for her replacement; candidates will audition as temporary concertmaster for certain performances.
