OSCAR at The Crown Begins U.K. Premiere August 2 | Playbill

International News OSCAR at The Crown Begins U.K. Premiere August 2

The immersive queer musical-meets-nightclub experience plays Edinburgh Fringe.

Beginning August 2, Oscar at The Crown makes its U.K. premiere with a run at Edinburgh Fringe. The immersive queer musical-meets-nightclub experience inspired by Oscar Wilde runs at Assembly George Square Gardens in the Spiegeltent Palais Du Variete through August 27.

Set in a dystopian future where fascism reigns, Oscar at The Crown takes place in a secret bunker where the majority of what's survived are sequins, reality television, and the complete works of Oscar Wilde. The immersively staged show explores the rise and fall of the historic figure with flair.

Queer performance collective The Neon Coven's three co-founders creator and performer Mark Mauriello, composer and choreographer Andrew Barret Cox, and director Shira Milikowsky created the work. Mauriello reprises the titular role from the show's original 2019 Brooklyn run at 3 Dollar Bill. Joining Mauriello in the international cast of nine are Melissa McCabe as Vicki, Yeohyeon Jung as Ramona, Letitia Hector as Sonja, Billie Kerr as Erika, Elizabeth Chalmers as Constance, Jamie Cruttenden as Bosie, Eloise Simpson as Exile, and Kim Hudman as Exile. (And yes, the names Vicki, Ramona, Sonja, and Erika are nods to women of Real Housewives fame.)

Completing the creative team are set and lighting designer Andrew Exeter and sound designer Charlie Smith. Casting is by Will Burton for Grindrod Burton Casting.

In a joint statement, The Neon Coven's co-founders said, “We cannot wait to bring Oscar at The Crown to Edinburgh Fringe...We want audiences to come to our show to dance and sing their hearts out with us."
