News Oscar Winner Eddie Redmayne's "Girl" Film Sets a Fall Release Date Eddie Redmayne, who took home an Oscar last month for his leading performance in "The Theory of Everything," will next portray transgender pioneer Lili Elbe in "The Danish Girl." Directed by Tom Hooper, the film has set a release date of Nov. 27, 2015.

Eddie Redmayne

Born in Denmark in 1882 as Einar Wegener, Elbe underwent one of the first sex reassignment surgery operations after living as a woman for a number of years. the film will co-star Matthias Schoenaerts, Alicia Vikander and Amber Heard.

Redmayne won the 2010 Tony Award as Best Featured Actor in a Play for his performance in Red. Among his stage roles since then, he played the title role in a U.K production of Richard II
