Eclipsed will officially open Oct. 14 and with a recently announced extension, performances are set to run through Nov. 29.

The cast also features a string of Broadway performers, including Saycon Sengbloh, whose credits include Hair, The Color Purple and Wicked, as well as Pascale Armand (The Trip to Bountiful), Akosua Busia (Mule Bone) and Zainab Jah (The Public's In Darfur).

The "vitally important" play is a story of survival and resilience set in post-colonial Africa. "A feminist reading of the Liberian Civil War, a war that was ended by women, Eclipsed is both heart-breaking and profoundly life-affirming," commented artistic director Oskar Eustis in an earlier press statement.

"Drawing on reserves of wit and compassion, Eclipsed reveals distinct women who must discover their own means of survival in this deeply felt portrait of women finding and testing their own strength in a hostile world of horrors not of their own making."

Gurira is an award-winning, Zimbabwean-American playwright; her earlier works include In the Continuum and The Convert. As an actress, she is currently featured as Michonne on AMC’s "The Walking Dead."
