The Berkshire Festival in Stockbridge, MA opens its final mainstage production of the summer, Over the River and Through the Woods, Aug. 13.
Over the River and Through the Woods, a domestic comedy, is written by Joe DiPietro, author of Off-Broadway's I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change. DiPietro is also the recipient of this year's William Inge Theatre Festival "New Faces In American Theatre" Award.
Nick Cristano, a rising New Jersey executive, faithfully enjoys traditional Sunday meals with his two sets of grand-parents until an employment opportunity threatens to take Nick away from them. Their solution? Get Nick a family of his own to keep him from leaving.
Shirl Bernheim and Herbert Rubens play Mr. & Mrs. Gianelli, one set of match-making grand parents, and Marie Lillo and Alan Swift play the other, Mr. & Mrs. Cristano. Jim Bracchitta plays Nick Cristano and Amy Cronise plays Caitlin O'Hare, his first match.
Joel Bishoff, who previously collaborated with DiPietro on I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change directs. Over the River and Through the Woods runs through Aug. 30. Still running at the New Unicorn Theatre, BTF's second stage, is Quills, Doug Wright's look at the Marquis de Sade. Rick Corley directs the piece, which was staged at New York Theatre Workshop last season. It runs through Aug. 23.
