Veteran Paper Mill producer Angelo Del Rossi will continue as President and Executive Producer through July. At that time, Del Rossi will become President Emeritus. In a statement released Jan. 14, Del Rossi said, "I am very pleased Michael Gennaro will be joining us. His expertise and experience along with that of the Paper Mill staff will allow us to carry on the great tradition and rich legacy of this outstanding theatrical organization."
During Gennaro's seven seasons at Chicago's Steppenwolf, the theatre has produced over 20 world premieres and was awarded the National Medal of the Arts. Several of these shows have had lives outside Chicago, including The Man Who Came to Dinner (Barbican Theatre), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Barbican, Broadway), Side Man (Galway, Ireland, Australia) and Glengarry Glen Ross (Dublin Theatre Festival). Prior to his work at Steppenwolf, Gennaro acted on Broadway and at the Paper Mill, was an entertainment lawyer, a managing director of Ford's Theatre, an executive director of the Pennsylvania Ballet and the general manager of the George Street Playhouse.
"These past seven years at Steppenwolf have been an extraordinary time for me and my family," Gennaro said in a statement. "In working with Martha Lavey [Steppenwolf's Artistic Director], the ensemble, an incredible staff and an outstanding board of directors, Steppenwolf has been thriving artistically and financially. I will miss my friends and colleagues at Steppenwolf and in Chicago, but I look forward to my involvement with Paper Mill and the New Jersey community, and returning with my wife to the East Coast where much of our family resides."
Gennaro will join Paper Mill family in mid-April. About the upcoming change of command, Paper Mill Board of Trustees Chairman Edward Marlowe said, "We honor Angelo Del Rossi for 40 years of extraordinary service to Paper Mill Playhouse. Under his tenure the theatre has grown and has become the premier regional theatre in the country. I look forward to working with Michael Gennaro. Under his leadership, we know that the traditions and visions of Paper Mill will continue to grow and flourish.
