Classic Arts News Paris Opera Announces 2006-07 Season New productions figure prominently in the Paris Opera's 2006-07 season, which features new stagings of Verdi's La traviata and Un ballo in Maschera, Halevy's La Juive, and Charpentier's Louise, the company announced.
Berlioz's Les Troyens also receives a new staging, honoring the late director Herbert Wernicke, starring Deborah Polaski and Jon Villars. Other new productions include Mozart's Idomeneo at the Palais Garnier, directed by Luc Bondy and featuring Ram‹n Vargas and Joyce DiDonato.

A double bill of Bart‹k's Bluebeard's Castle and Janšcek's The Diary of One Who Disappeared is also in the lineup, as is Salvatore Sciarrino's Da gelo a gelo, a co-commission with the Grand Th_ê¢tre de G_nve and the Schwetzinger Festpele, in a staging by American choreographer Trisha Brown.

The season opens on September 9 at the Op_ra-Bastille with a revival of Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor starring Natalie Dessay (in the title role) and Matthew Polenzani.

A new production by Gilbert Deflo of Un ballo in maschera at the Op_ra-Bastille stars Marcelo êlvarez and Angela M. Brown, with Semyon Bychkov conducting. Christoph Marthaler's production of La Traviata stars Christine Sch‹fer and Jonas Kaufmann.

The Pierre Audi production of La Juive includes Neil Shicoff and Anna Caterina Antonacci; Louise stars Delunsch and Jos_ van Dam.

Also on tap are Valery Gergiev conducting Wagner's Lohengrin, Heidi Grant Murphy singing in Donizetti's L'Elisir d'amore, and James Conlon conducting Verdi's Simon Boccanegra, with Dmitri Hvorostovsky in the title role.
