Lee Blakeley helmed the musical about the life of painter George Seurat, which began previews April 15 and ran through April 25. Radio France also live broadcast the final performance of the work, which features 46 members of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.
During its run, Sunday in the Park With George was also filmed for television. It will premiere May 24 at 5 PM, with a subsequent airing on May 28 at 5 PM. In addition national public broadcasting channel France Télévisions will air the musical at a date to be announced.
The production marked the world premiere of a new 46-piece orchestration for Sunday in the Park penned by original Tony-winning orchestrator Michael Starobin.
The musical, which brings to life the creation of Seurat's A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte during its first act, is set in both Paris and New York. It was presented in English with French subtitles.
Ovenden portrayed Seurat. He also appeared in the Off-Broadway staging of Death Takes a Holiday. In September he originated the role of J.M. Barrie in the West End-aimed musical Finding Neverland by Scott Frankel, Michael Korie and Allan Knee. Dann (Lend Me a Tenor, Jolson) portrayed Dot/Marie.

Sunday in the Park with George originally opened at Broadway's Booth Theatre on May 2, 1984, where it ran for 540 performances. Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters starred.
