Tony-winners Mandy Patinkin, Donna Murphy and Audra McDonald are featured on the "Bernstein's New York," a CD collection of Leonard Bernstein songs inspired by New York City.
Nonesuch Records is scheduled to release the recording Aug. 20 (delayed from April). Also featured on the album are Judy Blazer, Richard Muenz and Dawn Upshaw.
Bernstein's most successful Broadway musicals -- "West Side Story," "Wonderful Town" and "On the Town" -- were set in New York. Songs from those shows, along with instrumental versions of music from "Fancy Free" and "On the Waterfront," make up the bulk of the album.
Here are some highlights:
Patinkin ("Sunday in the Park With George," "Evita") will sing on five cuts, including "Some Other Time," "Come Up to My Place" (with Blazer), "The Wrong Note Rag," "Ya Got Me" (with Murphy and Blazer) and "Tonight" (with McDonald). Murphy (Tony winner for "Passion" and "The King and I") will sing "What a Waste" (with Upshaw and Muenz) and "Ain't Got No Tears Left."
McDonald ("Carousel," "Master Class") will sing "A Little Bit in Love."
The CD will include a Bernstein rarity: the song "Story of My Life," which was cut from the original production of "Wonderful Town." It will be sung by Blazer ("Hello Again").
