Works by George Balanchine, Peter Martins and Jerome Robbins, among others, are also part of the early 2011 season; the winter rep runs Jan. 18-Feb. 27, and the spring rep is May 3-June 12.

Stroman (The Producers, Contact, Crazy for You, The Scottsboro Boys and more) has created For the Love of Duke, a companion piece to her 1999 work for NYCB, Blossom Got Kissed. This will be the third work that Stroman has created for NYCB. She last worked with NYCB in 2004 when she created the full-length Double Feature.

For the Love of Duke will appear on a program of rotating pieces on the following dates: 8 PM Jan. 28, 3 PM Jan. 20, 8 PM Feb. 3, 8 PM Feb. 4, 2 PM Feb. 5, 3 PM Feb. 6, and into the Spring Season (on a program with Robbins' West Side Story Suite and Balanchine's Slaughter on Tenth Avenue) 7:30 PM May 25, 2 PM and 8 PM May 28 and 3 PM May 29. Music by Leonard Bernstein and Richard Rodgers, respectively, are heard in West Side Story Suite and Slaughter on Tenth Avenue. The latter was a jazz ballet that was part of the musical comedy On Your Toes.

For theatre fans, a highlight of the spring season will be Tony Award winner LuPone's The Seven Deadly Sins by Lynne Taylor-Corbett, the Tony-nominated director and choreographer. This is Taylor-Corbett's third work for NYCB.

A sung ballet in seven scenes, The Seven Deadly Sins was composed by Kurt Weill and has a libretto by Bertolt Brecht. It was first performed at the Théatre de Champs-Elysées in Paris on June 7, 1933, and was produced, directed and choreographed by Balanchine. In 1958 Balanchine revived the production for New York City Ballet. Lotte Lenya was the star in 1933 and 1958. A morality play, The Seven Deadly Sins tells the story of Anna, who is played by both a singer (in this case, LuPone, known for Broadway's Evita, Anything Goes, Sweeney Todd and the current Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) and a dancer. Performances are 7 PM May 11, 3 PM and 8 PM May 12, 8 PM May 13, 2 PM and 8 PM May 14 and 3 PM May 15.
