The acclaimed singing actress, according to press notes, will explore "through indelible interpretations of classic Broadway show tunes by the likes of Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart, Jule Styne, Stephen Schwartz, Charles Strouse, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter, and Irving Berlin, how her life-long love affair with Broadway began, and her concern for what the Great White Way is becoming today."
The 8 PM performance is part of the famed venue's two-week celebration of Broadway, titled Project B-Way/95. Highlights of the tribute to The Great White Way, curated and produced by Joel Fram and Annette Jolles, also include a free, day-long tribute to the work of Oscar-winning composer Stephen Schwartz; a discussion of race and diversity found on the New York stage; screenings of the recent London revival of Gypsy; and more.

Following Young Lions of Broadway at 7:30 pm, the excitement continues in this late-night event when Mat Eisenstein (conductor for Broadway's Something Rotten, Newsies, The Book of Mormon) hosts an open mic night featuring Broadway’s greatest music, accompanied by some of the Great White Way’s finest music directors. Audience members are invited to belt out favorites in the presence of Broadway royalty. Admission is free.
Sunday, April 10 (11 AM, throughout Symphony Space): Composers by Chance
Both fans and aspiring songwriters will have a rare opportunity to converse with some of Broadway’s most gifted creators. Positioned throughout Symphony Space, composers and lyricists Nell Benjamin & Laurence O’Keefe (Legally Blonde: The Musical, Bat Boy, Mean Girls), Tom Kitt (Next to Normal, If/Then), and Matthew Sklar (Gotta Dance, Elf), host intimate discussions on life in the Broadway theatre. Audiences draw lots for two of the three sessions, with time for all to mingle at a bagel nosh in Bar Thalia in between. Space is strictly limited.

Gypsy is considered by many to be one of the greatest of Broadway musicals, with book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The score features such musical theater classics as Everything’s Coming Up Roses, Some People, Let Me Entertain You, and Rose’s Turn.
Suggested by the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, Gypsy tells the true story of ambitious showbiz mother Momma Rose, who treks across America with her daughters Baby June and Louise in search of success with their homespun vaudeville act. As times change, Momma Rose is forced to accept the demise of vaudeville and the rise of burlesque, as well as her daughters’ quest for autonomy. This critically acclaimed West End production features Imelda Staunton as Momma Rose, with powerful turns by Lara Pulver as Louise and Peter Davison as Herbie. Directed by Jonathan Kent. Following five couples and their friend Robert (Neil Patrick Harris), the perpetual bachelor, this HD recording of Stephen Sondheim's Company explores the true meaning of being in a relationship through a series of vignettes. Harris (How I Met Your Mother, Rent) leads a star-studded cast which includes Patti LuPone, Stephen Colbert, Jon Cryer, Christina Hendricks, Craig Bierko and Martha Plimpton.
Company's plot revolves around Bobby (a single man unable to commit fully to a steady relationship, let alone marriage), his three girlfriends, and the five married couples who are his best friends. It's a concept musical composed of short vignettes, presented in no particular chronological order, linked by a celebration for Bobby's 35th birthday. Featuring the New York Philharmonic, conducted by Paul Gemignani. Presented by Ellen M. Krass Productions.
