Bogaev, according to the New York Times, has been hired "as a consultant to help improve the performance, vocal and orchestration arrangements, and sound quality of the songs and numbers."
Earlier this week it was reported that playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa had been approached about tweaking the book of the new musical. That news plus the hiring of Bogaev "has fueled speculation that the show's opening would be delayed again," according to the Times. The New York paper also says that Bono and the Edge are in the process of writing additional music for the $65 million production.
Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark features a book by Julie Taymor and Glen Berger, and new music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge. The musical had originally been announced to arrive during the 2009 season, but was postponed due to financing.
After several postponements this season, the production is currently scheduled to open at the Foxwoods Theatre March 15.
Bogaev's Broadway credits as an arranger, orchestrator, musical director, musical supervisor or conductor include Tarzan, Bombay Dreams, Aida, Sunset Boulevard, Aspects of Love, Chess and Starlight Express.
