News Paul Sorvino Is Tevye in North Carolina Fiddler on the Roof Paul Sorvino will play Tevye the milkman in Fiddler on the Roof for North Carolina Theatre in Raleigh Jan. 22-30, 2005, the company announced.

The stage and film star in known for such movies as "Goodfellas," "The Firm," "Nixon," "Dick Tracy" and TV's "Law & Order." Sorvino was Tony Award nominated for That Championship Season, and had the title role in the original pre-Broadway production of the musical, The Baker's Wife.

Noted for tough-guy roles, Sorvino is also respected as a singer and has performed opera.

Fiddler, the beloved musical about changing traditions in a Russian-Jewish town, is currently being seen in a Broadway revival unrelated to the North Carolina run.

The book is by Joseph Stein, music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. The 1964 show was based on tales and characters crested by Sholom Aleichem.
