Written by Paula Vogel, created by Vogel and Rebecca Taichman, and directed by Taichman, the production will continue at the University Theatre through Oct. 22. It is a co-production with La Jolla Playhouse, where it will play Nov. 13–Dec. 10.
Indecent, according to production notes, is "inspired by the true events surrounding the controversial 1923 Broadway debut of Sholem Asch's God of Vengeance—a play seen by some as a seminal work of Jewish culture, and by others as an act of traitorous libel. [The play] charts the history of an incendiary drama and the path of the artists who risked their careers and lives to perform it."
The production features music composed by Lisa Gutkin and Aaron Halva, choreography by David Dorfman, music direction by Aaron Halva, scenic design by Riccardo Hernandez, costumes by Emily Rebholz, lighting by Christopher Akerlind, sound by Matt Hubbs, projections by Tal Yarden, dialect coaching by Stephen Gabis, Yiddish consultation by Joel Berkowitz, dramaturgy by Amy Boratko, casting by Tara Rubin Casting and stage management by Amanda Spooner.
