Classic Arts News PBS to Air Washington Opera's Fledermaus on New Year's Eve PBS will air the Washington National Opera's production of the Johann Strauss operetta Die Fledermaus on December 31 at 9 p.m. EST (check local listings).
The second-act party scene of Die Fledermaus traditionally includes excerpts from other operas and cameo appearances. In Washington Opera's version, the "surprise" guests will include artistic director Plšcido Domingo and American Ballet Theatre dancers Ethan Stiefel and Gillian Murphy.

The production also includes June Anderson, Wolfgang Brendel, Elena Obraztsova, Peter Edelmann, and Jes‹s Garcia. Heinz Fricke conducts; Lotfi Mansouri, the former head of San Francisco Opera, is the director.
