She ran away from home when she was about 12 because her stepmother burned her diaries and notebooks. It seems she was destined to become a writer and she did. Dawn Powell, in her sixty-eight years, wrote over 100 short stories, six plays, many book reviews, thousands of personal letters and of course, her diaries.

Now, the Peccadillo Theater Company present her play, Jig Saw, at the Bank Street Theater in downtown Manhattan March 10-April 1. The production began previews March 8.

Jig Saw is one of only two plays Powell saw produced in her lifetime; the other was Big Night. Not produced in New York since that production in 1934, the play is a comedy about the imperfections of Upper East Siders in which a mother and daughter squabble for the affection of a strapping young gent.

Dan Wackerman directs the revival for Peccadillo which has been producing shows since 1994. Leading the cast of the show is actress Sabra Jones McAteer, who replaced Stockard Channing in the Lincoln Center Theatre's production of Six Degrees of Separation.
