News Peil and Payton-Wright to Star in George Street's Things You Least Expect Stage and screen stars Mary Beth Peil and Pamela Payton-Wright will play sisters in Things You Least Expect, which kicks off the George Street Playhouse's 33rd season.

Joan Vail Thorne's play is scheduled to begin performances at the New Brunswick theatre Oct. 3 and will run through Oct. 29. Peil will star as Clare, a widow who discovers herself during a European vacation; Payton-Wright will co-star as Clare's sister Myra. Artistic Director David Saint, who will helm the production, said in a statement, "I have loved Mary Beth ever since I saw her in Birds of Paradise, directed by Arthur Laurents. I have wanted to find just the right vehicle for her since then, and I think that Joan Vail Thorne’s work is a great match. I have seen Pamela numerous times on stage and have always found her to an amazing actress as well. I look forward to working with them both.”

An Obie Award-winning actress, Mary Beth Peil is a member of the Atlantic Theater Company and the Drama Dept. She received a Tony nomination for her performance in the 1985 production of The King and I, and she has appeared in plays by Paul Rudnick, A.R. Gurney, Craig Lucas and Edward Albee. Peil's screen credits include "The Odd Couple II," "Law & Order," "The Job" and currently "Dawson’s Creek."

Pamela Payton-Wright received a Drama Desk Award for her performance in Mourning Becomes Electra. Her other Broadway credits include Long Day's Journey Into Night, Garden District, The Night of the Iguana, M. Butterfly, Romeo and Juliet, The Glass Menagerie, All Over Town, The Crucible, Jimmy Shine, The Cherry Orchard, Exit the King and The Show Off. On screen she has been seen in "One Life to Live," "Law & Order," "The Adams Chronicles," "Saving Face," "In Dreams" and "Ironweed.
