Artistic director Joe Brancato announced that The Devil’s Music will open at the St. Luke's Theatre in New York City June 6. The musical play was conceived and staged by Brancato and originally presented by Penguin Rep. The Off-Broadway production will be co-produced by Penguin Rep and Edmund Gaynes.
Tom Dudzick's Greetings!, directed by Thomas Caruso, will open the Penguin Rep's mainstage season on May 20 with performances running through June 12. The comedy is described as "a hilarious and heartwarming visit [home for the holidays] with a family blessed by an unexpected miracle."
The New York premiere of Deborah Zoe Laufer's romantic comedy Sirens will follow, with performances July 8-31. The play, directed by Brancato, is a story about "about finding one’s muse and falling in love with your spouse all over again."
Donald Margulies' Shipwrecked! An Entertainment, the play based on the true story of Louis de Rougemont stranded on an island for 30 years, will run Aug. 12-Sept. 4 and will be directed by Caruso.
The New York premiere of Samuel J. and K., by Mat Smart, will conclude the mainstage season and run Oct. 14-Nov. 6. The play, directed by Brancato, is about "conflict, identity and the boundless reach of family." The 2011 Children's Theatre at Penguin Rep includes North, South, East & Jim West, starring Jim West (July 19 and 21), and Sweet Potato Pie & Such, starring Queen Nur (July 20).
Robert Wuhl's Assume the Position and My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm in Therapy are one-night-only special events that will play at SUNY Rockland Community College on Sept. 10 and Oct. 1, respectively.
