Some Voices, Olivier Award-winning British scribe Joe Penhall's first play, was to arrive at New York's Greenwich Street Theatre, Sept. 12-30. However, all New York theatrical performances are currently suspended, owing to terrorist attacks, Sept. 11, on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. All Wednesday matinees are cancelled; theatres are awaiting word from Mayor Rudolph Giuliani regarding Sept. 12 evening performances. Sources say it is likely that all theatrical performances held below 14th Street will be cancelled for several days. Directed by Kevin Kittle, Voices chronicles the lucid and delusional moments of Ray, a mental patient who must choose between a functional life on drugs or being himself. As he avoids taking his medicine, he becomes involved with Laura, an Irish working-class woman stuck in an abusive relationship.

New York-based British and Irish actors comprise the cast. Victor Villar-Hauser plays Ray, and Laoisa Sexton, Laura. Also in the cast are David Costelloe, Mike Finesilver and Patrick Tull. The design team is Valerie Green (sets and costumes), Douglas Filomena (lighting) and Susan Williams (sound).

Producer Ludovica Villar-Hauser recently produced and directed The Countess, which ran for 634 performances from March 1999-December 2000.

Some Voices premiered at London's Royal Court in 1994 and was subsequently produced by the New Group in 1999. Penhall's blue/orange, currently running on the West End, won this year's Olivier Award for best play.
