News Penny Fuller and Gabriel Hoffman Cast in World-Premiere Musical A Christmas Memory Tony Award nominee Penny Fuller will star in A Christmas Memory, the new musical by Larry Grossman, Carol Hall and Duane Poole, which will play its world-premiere engagement at Palo Alto TheatreWorks in December.

Fuller (Dividing the Estate, A New Brain) will be joined by young, Bay-area actor Gabriel Hoffman, who will star as Buddy. Fuller will portray Aunt Sook. TheatreWorks artistic director Robert Kelley will stage the production that runs Dec. 1-26. An official opening has been set for Dec. 4.

TheatreWorks describes the musical as "a wistful memoir of cherished youth, chronicling a young boy’s loving friendship with an eccentric aunt in a small southern town in the 1930’s where misfits Buddy and Sook launch kites, haunt speakeasies, and mail fruitcakes to everyone from Jean Harlow to President Roosevelt."

The creative team behind A Christmas Memory includes Larry Grossman (music), Carol Hall (lyrics) and Duane Poole (book). The new musical is based on the Truman Capote short story.

Grossman penned the music to Minnie's Boys, Goodtime Charley, A Doll's Life and Grind. Hall is best known for the score to The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Poole also penned the 1997 made-for-television adaptation of "A Christmas Memory."
