"Borat" and "Bruno" star Sacha Baron Cohen, who also appeared as Pirelli in the film of "Sweeney Todd," has reportedly signed on to play iconic Queen front man Freddie Mercury.
The untitled film will focus on the band's formative years up to the 1985 Live Aid performance. Rights have been acquired to use such hits as "Bohemian Rhapsody," "We Will Rock You," "We Are the Champions," "Another One Bites The Dust" and "You’re My Best Friend."
The film is aiming to begin production in 2011. Graham King and Tim Headington, of GK Films, will produce along with Tribeca Productions and Queen Films.
Morgan received an Academy Award nomination for the screenplays to "Frost/Nixon" and "The Queen"; the latter earned the Golden Globe for Best Screenplay. Frost/Nixon was nominated for the 2007 Tony Award for Best Play.
