The NNPN, an alliance of non-profit theatres across the U.S., is administering the first commission, all of which are funded by New York City's New Dramatists. Each commission comes with a $25,000 grant to the playwright, as well as travel and resources to develop the work at New Dramatists.

An additional $40,000 in subsidies will also be made available for the eventual production of each commission. The four remaining playwrights who will receive the NNPN commissions will be announced over the next few months.

NNPN's 26 member theatres voted to select Nachtrieb's play, which will focus on lying in contemporary America.

"I am honored and excited to receive this opportunity from NNPN and New Dramatists," Nachtrieb said in a statement. "I love how this commission not only offers substantial financial support, but also provides abundant resources for the development, collaboration and production of the play. I think it's going to help me create something really awesome."

Nachtrieb's plays also include Litter, BOB, boom, T.I.C., Colorado and Multiplex.
