Classic Arts News Philadelphia Orchestra Announces Summer Season at Mann Center The Philadelphia Orchestra's summer season at the outdoor Mann Center for the Performing Arts will include visits from Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Denyce Graves, and Emanuel Ax.
The orchestra also announced that it had appointed Rossen Milanov, its associate conductor since 2004, as artistic director of the Mann Center concerts.

The 2006 season at the 30-year-old center, which is in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park, runs June 20-July 20. Milanov will lead six of the 15 concerts at the center, including an opening-night performance featuring Perlman in the Beethoven Violin Concerto.

Other highlights include a 30th-anniversary gala featuring Ma, Ax in Beethoven's "Emperor" Concerto, Hilary Hahn performing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, and an evening of Tchaikovsky with fireworks.

Visiting conductors include Peter Oundjian, Andrew Litton, Gerard Schwarz, and Andrey Boreyko, who will make his Philadelphia Orchestra debut.

The orchestra also gives an annual summer residency at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in upstate New York, under the direction of Charles Dutoit.

Milanov is the music director of New Jersey's Haddonfield Symphony and Sofia, Bulgaria's New Symphony Orchestra, and the chief conductor of the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony. He was named the Philadelphia Orchestra's assistant conductor in 2000.
