The original Broadway staging of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Into the Woods closed on Sept. 3, 1989. Playbill.com looks back at the two Broadway stagings of the musical, as well as some notable regional productions.
The show debuted in San Diego at the Old Globe in 1986 prior to a 1987 Broadway bow. It opened Nov. 5, 1987 at the Martin Beck Theatre where it ran for nearly two years. Woods was revived at the Broadhurst Theatre in 2002.
