The awards were presented in a ceremony held at New York City's Algonquin Hotel May 14. The cocktail reception was held in the very place where in 1935 the NYDCC was founded by such legendary critics and journalists as Brooks Atkinson, Walter Winchell and Robert Benchley. Tom Stoppard's The Coast of Utopia was named Best Play of the 2006-2007 season. Spring Awakening, written by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, was named Best Musical, and August Wilson's Radio Golf was named Best American Play. A special citation was awarded to the revival of Journey's End.
