Jim Brochu and Steve Schalchlin (The Last Session) presented a reading of their latest musical, The Big Voice: God or Merman?, on Aug. 12 at California's Laguna Playhouse. The songwriters themselves starred in the semi-autobiographical musical comedy.

The Big Voice is about two men from different backgrounds who decide to test God, but discover musical theatre legend Ethel Merman at the end of their spiritual search. After the Laguna reading, The Big Voice will go into four to six weeks of workshop in Hollywood, beginning in September. Anthony Barnao will direct The Big Voice.
