Composer-lyricist Kirsten Childs, whose best known work is The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin, produced in at Playwrights Horizons, won the 2001 Gilman Gonzalez-Falla Award for new musical theatre creators. With her are the prize's founders Celso Gonzalez-Falla and Sondra Gilman. Past recipients of the honor include Andrew Lippa, Polly Pen, Douglas Cohen and Jason Robert Brown.
